Youth Suicide: Reducing Risk and Building Resilience

The latest data from the Center for Disease Control indicates that although overall rates of suicide in children and adolescents has decreased and stabilized since 1994, American youth are still more than twice likely to end their own lives than their counterparts from only 50 years ago. How do we account for these alarming data, especially in light of all the material advantages the 21st century offers this generation of youth? Each societal sphere surrounding our children must be identified as possessing risk factors and must be tapped in order to produce preventative factors if we endeavor to reduce and eliminate this devastating social ill. This presentation goes beyond impersonal statistics to reveal Dr. Núñez’ own very personal experience with youth suicidality and recovery.
